Kinfolk Issues 14–21
Creative Direction•Design
In 2015 Charlotte was invited to Portland, US, to lead both the Creative Direction and Design of the bi-annual magazine Kinfolk. Working closely with the editorial team Charlotte worked at restructuring the magazine itself, re-designed it’s pages and conceived of story content — commissioning and art directing an international roster of creatives to visualise the teams thematic ideas for each issue. Whilst aware of Kinfolks loyal US following at the time, the re-design was noted for its modern sensitivity and European style — both expanding its outlook without alienating the US market. Over the course of the eight Issues (14—21) CHD introduced a large network of creatives to the magazine, many of whom continue to work on its pages today. They include Pelle Crepin, Aradia Crockett, Rose Forde, Mikkel Mortesen, Sarah Maycock, Martin Andersen, Aaron Tilley, Rahel Weiss, David Lamb, Phil Dunlop to name a few. Following the re-design, Charlotte was invited to speak at the renowned Here conference held at the Royal Geographical Society by itsnicethat to discuss her approach and process. Additionally she was selected to speak at both Magculture and KK Outlets Meal ticket in 2016.
